Short Film: The Bench
After a conversation with GT VOICE, we decided that making a short film and hosting a panel discussion would be a great way to bring awareness to issues of safety that women have been facing on campus. Through the short film, we would be bringing awareness to these issues, and by hosting a discussion after screening the film, we would provide a public forum on campus for students to openly and honestly discuss these issues.
We discussed this idea with Jennifer Gagen from GT VOICE as well as our mentor Shubanghi Gupta, and both of them were extremely supportive of the idea and eager to be involved in the process.
During pre-production, I acted as a co-writer and co-producer, researching and planning how to bring to life an impactful story that satisfied our vision and design prompt. During production, I acted as assistant director, so my job was to make sure that we were staying on schedule with filming scenes as well as making sure that we got all the shots we needed for each scene according to the storyboard, which was made by the director. Throughout the filming process, I kept up with each scene to make sure that the actors were comfortable with their lines and understood the flow of each scene before we started rolling. During post-production, I planned and coordinated a campus event to screen the short film and discuss the issues of women’s safety on campus through a panel in conversation with GT VOICE.
